Horses Can't
Fly
Her lover at her side asleep, Alone
the girl begins to weep,
Unfit for use her body lower than
midriff,
So long now hiding in this cove,
While the world is up above,
The girl she hides there at the
bottom of the cliff,
She dwells there at the bottom of
the cliff;
These times her satisfaction wanes,
It turns to grief and to such pain,
And always does she contemplate
just if
She could the rocky ledge ascend,
But her legs they will not mend,
She’s crippled at the bottom of
the cliff,
Trapped there at the bottom of the
cliff;
Abandoning her pleaful note, She
now does towards the window float,
Without her one time precious horse
now lies there stiff,
Because his wings he did not spread,
She cannot walk and he is dead,
With her aboard he did go lunging
off the cliff,
They both plunged right to the bottom
of the cliff;
Unburied and in such clear sight,
This corpse it does not cause her fright,
Since through her tears she likes
to hope just if
Her loving pet would rise one time,
Again onto his back she'd climb,
Then together they could fly atop
the cliff,
Soar free right from the bottom
of the cliff ;
Such longing leads to vast confusion
And to irrational conclusions--
Then all at once within her sobbing
comes a sniff,
She quickly ceases then to brood,
For then her stallion rose and stood,
And galloped off this horse once
killed upon the cliff,
Away he sped no longer dead below
the cliff;
Dreams now replaced tears in her
eyes, Her depth each moment less in size,
The happy sight oh how it caused
her spirit lift,
She then did chase her darling steed,
She followed with amazing speed,
She chased him through the lands
there near the cliff,
Such speed she found then gaining
ground there near the cliff;
Within her reach soon was the mare,
She leaped, the harness she did snare,
Bounding upon his back she took
a joyous whiff
Of freedom she had been denied,
Oh what a happy ride!
The girl then stared into the air
above the cliff,
She then prepared to soar unscared
atop the cliff ;
Await she did the horse’s wings,
And all the pleasures they would bring,
Not even for a moment pondering
what if --
The land then soon came to an end,
The horse he proved to be no friend,
With her aboard he did go lunging
off the cliff,
They both plunged right to the bottom
of the cliff.
